EUGENE CHASE
The death of Eugene Chase occurred at the family home on Jackson Run road Saturday morning [Feb. 5] at nine o'clock after an illness covering nearly two years; the immediate cause of dissolution being hardening of the arteries. Mr. Chase was born in Pine Grove township, February 5, 1836 [wrong - February 5 is death date, he was born March 23, 1836]. He married Miss Lydia Spencer, in January, 1861, to this union the following children were born; Blanche, now Mrs. Norway of Cleveland, O [most likely Bowling Green or No. Baltimore, OH]; Carrie, Mrs. Kennedy of Clarendon, Arkansas; John of North Baltimore, O and Frank of Valley, Washington. Mrs. Chase died in 1872 and for fourteen years Mr. Chase cared for his little family and then married Miss Mina Bowen of Harmony township, Chautauqua county, N..Y. One son, Lyle, at home, blessed this marriage.
Mr. Chase was a kind and loving father, and husband and a neighbor greatly admired for his many fine traits of character. Mrs. Kennedy and John Chase arrived before his death.
Mr. Chase volunteered and served three years and four months in the Civil War, and was a valued member of Eben N. Ford Post of this city. Funeral services were held from the home this morning.[Feb. 7, 1921]
