John L. Ashler

John Louin Ashler, 83, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at his home in St. Joseph.
He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Clarksdale, Mo., the son of Emma and Oliver Ashler.
He graduated from Union Star High School.
He worked at Schreiber Mills as a Truck Driver.
He enjoyed birds, raising chickens and pigeons, and was an avid coin collector and gardner; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the New Home Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Ashler; his parents; a son, John Ashler, Jr.; and a daughter, Barbara Ashler.
Survivors include a son, Walt Ashler Sr., of St. Joseph; daughters: Connie Cockrum of Macon, Mo.; Bonnie Giseburt and husband Nathaniel of St. Joseph; and Rita Boyer and husband Alfred of St. Joseph; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Omer Ashler and Clarence Ashler of St. Joseph; and a sister, Gladys Wright of Agency, Mo.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 26, at 2 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Steele officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the John Ashler Memorial Fund.
