The Rev. Nimrod Slaven of 510 East Columbus Street, principal of Green Township Consolidated School, and an ordained Baptist minister, died Thursday afternoon at. 5 o'clock in the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The Rev. Slaven had been ill for a number of years but had continued his teaching through the early part of Tuesday of this week. Later in the day he was brought to Memorial Hospital for care and on Wednesday was transferred to the lndianapolis Hospital. Coming here from Jasonville six years ago, the local pastor and teacher had made a place for himself in the community, teaching Bible in the Martinsville Schools for the first four years. Two years ago he became principal in Green Township, and reportedly had expected to retire after this year. He was also preaching at the Amity Baptist Church near Eminence, and often substituted for other pastors. The son of the late John and Dora Rudd Slaven, he was born in Indiana Jan. 28, 1887. He attended Indiana State Teachers College at Terre Haute and taught for many years in the state before being ordained a Baptist minister in 1934. After that he often held pastorates while continuing his teaching. Among his churches were those at Coalmont, Coal City, Mt. Vernon, Freedona at Vevay, and Whitaker. In 1928 he was married to Pearl Kennedy. Surviving him are the widow, a teacher at Central School in this city; two sons and four daughters, Albert Slaven, Mrs. Gene Waldon, Mrs. William Deighton and Anna Pearl Slaven of Terre Haute, Mrs. Charles Gearing and John David Slaven of Martinsville; a brother and two sisters, Harry Slaven of Washington, Mrs. Lou Cooper and Mrs. Eva Powell of Plainville. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church Sunday after noon at 2 o'clock; conducted by the pastor, the Rev. G. W. Adams, followed by interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening at the Cure and Hensley Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 o'clock Sunday at the church.
