Marvin W. Carlson, of rural Overton, Nebraska, passed away May 9, 2008, in Omaha, Nebraska. Marvin was born October 8, 1926 on the family farm north of Bertrand in Phelps County, Nebraska, the second of three sons born to Carl William and Jennie (Nordenstam) Carlson. He was baptized and confirmed at Adullam Lutheran Church. Marvin received his primary education from Ash Grove School in Phelps County and then graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1944. Following his education, Marvin was inducted into the United States Army, serving his country during WW II, stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on January 7. 1947.

Following his service to his country, Marvin returned home to the family farming operation and fed cattle with his brothers: Alton and Doyle.

On June 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Elsie Marie Sienknecht and the couple was blessed with four children: Kirk, Kathy, Peg, and Jeff. Marvin's passion was his work, feeding cattle, and working the land until his passing. Marvin was a lifetime member of Adullam Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and held various offices throughout the years. Marvin was a past member of the Overton School Board, Bertrand CO-OP Board, Phelps County Planning Commission, Overton Rural Fire Board, and also sang in the 1733 Barbershop Chorus for 30 years.

Marvin leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Elsie; four children: Kirk Carlson and his wife, Kim of Ralston, Nebraska; Kathy Griess and her husband, Jim of Fremont, Nebraska; Peg Moeller and her husband, Sid of Hooper, Nebraska; and Jeff Carlson and his wife, Bertina of Overton; nine grandchildren: Micheal, Brian, Shawn, and Joseph Carlson; Robb and Brett Moeller; and Alexandra, Ashley, and Dalton Carlson; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Alton Carlson and his wife, Florence and Doyle Carlson.
