"CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES.-Braz Frazier Answers Taps in 97th Year.
Final taps sounded for one of Miami county's Civil War veterans, Braz Frazier, on Friday, August 27, 1943, in his 97th year. His death, caused by pneumonia, occurred at the home of his niece, Mrs. Hattie Smith, in Hillsdale, with whom he had lived since his health began to fail some time ago.
The death of Mr. Frazier leaves only two veterans of the Civil War living here-J.W. Murray, 98, who has resided here 73 years, and John C. Porter, 96, who is making his home temporarily with his grandson, Ennis Stewart.
Henry Brazeal Frazier, son of Louis Frazier, was born in Jefferson county, Missouri, January 15, 1847. During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. F, 43rd Missouri Infantry and served until the end of the conflict, being discharged in St. Louis, Mo., in 1865.
In 1868 he came to Kansas and here was married to Mary Hill, in June, 1873. Five children were born to them-Russell, Kitty, Albert, Earl and Lou-all preceding the father in death except Albert, who resides in Racine, Wisconsin. Mrs. Nellie Frazier, now serving as county treasurer, is a daughter-in-law of the deceased...
Those assisting with the flowers were Mrs. L.W. Baehr, Mrs. Woodrow Winkler, Mrs. Herbert Stockwell and Miss Earlene Wilson. Pallbearers were Charles Diediker, Dick Miller, Clark Phillips, Clinton Goss, Lewis Taylor and Charles Lawrence. Interment was in the Paola cemetery."
