Roy Manuel Thomas, 93, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Whitney. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Marshall & Marshall with burial following at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Roy was born in Silver Valley, Texas, the youngest of eight children born to the late Joseph Carl Thomas, a Confederate soldier and early settler of Bosque County, and Sarah Stacey Thomas. He grew up in Cedron in Bosque County. He married Willie Dorothy Halbert in 1936. After working for the railroad for two years in Baird, Texas, they returned to Bosque County, where he was engaged in stock farming and custom hay bailing in the Smith Bend Community. Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed being with family and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Willie in 2002; a son, Jimmy Glenn Thomas in 1988; a grandson, James Gregory Thomas in 1961; and his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Ronny Gene Thomas and his wife, Susan, of Corpus Christi; daughter-in-law, Linda Lawson Thomas, of Fort Worth; grandsons, Jimmy Glenn Thomas Jr., of Fort Worth, David Seth Thomas and his wife, Michelle, of New Braunfels, and Robert Gene Thomas, of San Antonio; great-grandsons, Jerimi Gene Thomas and his wife, Amy, of Fort Worth, and Hayden Vern Thomas, of New Braunfels; a great-granddaughter, Marchella Thomas Denbow and husband, Mike, of Bedford; a great-great-granddaughter, Roeser May Thomas, of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Cloteal Halbert Gray, of Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, and several friends.
