W. C. SHEFFIELD, WELL-KNOWN PINEVIEW MAN DIES AT HOME WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1938
Funeral services for W. C. Sheffield, 68, were held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Pope's Church conducted by Dr. S. R. Mitchell assisted by Rev. Charlie Wall, of Pinehurst, Elder G. A. Hill, and the Rev. Mr. McMichael, pastor of the Pineview Methodist Church. A choir composed of Mrs. T. J. Dennard, Mrs. Grover McLeod, Mrs. C. R. McLeod, Mrs. Clarence Finleyson, Mrs. John Tippett, and Mrs. Dan Shipp sang several hymns accompanied by Mrs. John Slade at the piano.
Mr. Sheffield enjoyed the esteem and respect of all who knew him. For many years he served as a member of the Board of Education of the local school. He was a substantial farmer and personally attended to all details of his farm. He had spent a busy day of his passing, only complaining after eating the evening meal. He suffered a stroke while sitting at the table and never regained consciousness.
The deceased was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a good neighbor and a true friend.
Survivors are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Warren, of Pineview; Mrs. Belle Burke, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Faustine Dennard, of Cordele; six grand-children, Miss Juanita Warren and Paul Warren, Jr., Mrs. Clyde Bass, of Lakeland, Fla; Marvin, Mildred, Eugene, and Vernon Burke; one great grandson, Edward Bass. Pallbearers were: W. J. Rhodes, C. R. McLeod, W. D. Mann, Jr., M. M. Clements, Sam Dennard, and Edwin Dennard.
The Clarke Funeral Home was in charge of interment.
Out of town relatives and friends coming for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Burke and family, of Atlanta; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bass and baby, of Lakeland, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Cobb Dennard, of Cordele; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Simmons and family, of Rebecca; Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Sheffield and family, of Blakely (brother); Mrs. Homer Harvey, of Fitzgerald; Mrs. Rufus Smith, of Vienna; Mrs. Charlie Warren, of Davenport, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pope and family, of Rebecca; and Rev. Mr. Wall, of Pinehurst; Mrs. John Watson, Mrs. Jim Robinson, Mrs. Walter Lavender, Mrs. Shipp, Miss Emina Cox and Mr. Sylvester Robinson, of Cordele; Mrs. Land Dennard, and Mrs. Sallie Dennard Drauhorne, of Vienna.
