OCT. 3 SERVICES SET FOR MARY L. ALLELY
Mary L. Allely, 89, of Essex, passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 30, at Vista Garden Care Center in Red Oak where she had been a resident the past six years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Allely will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, 1991, at the First Presbyterian Church in Essex. The Rev. Linda O'Connell will officiate. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah.

Memorials may be directed to the Essex Presbyterian Church and the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackett Funeral Home, Shenandoah.

Mary Louise (Hoxie) Allely, daughter of Frank M. Sr. and Daisy. M. (Teachout) Hoxie, was born Sept. 15, 1902, in Lincoln, NE. When she was a child the family moved to a farm northwest of Shenandoah where she grew up. Mary graduated from Shenandoah High School where she played basketball and later graduated from Cedar Falls College. She taught country school at Sunny Slope where her mother and sister had also taught and later taught fifth and sixth grades at Strahan, IA, where she also coached basketball.

On Sept. 21, 1927, Mary was united in marriage with Clifford Allely. Following their marriage they farmed north of Randolph for 10 years and then moved to a farm north of Hastings, IA, where they lived for 32 years. In 1970 they moved to Essex.

She had been a Mills County Master Homemaker and was a Mills County 4-H leader and board member. She was an active member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Sunday School and women's organizations for 32 years.

After moving to Essex she became an active member of the Presbyterian church and their women's organizations. She was also a member and past worthy matron of the Silver City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the DAR of Shenandoah.

Preceding her in death were her parents and five brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford of Essex; one son, Richard Allely, and his wife Rosemary of Springfield, OR; one daughter, Joyce Johnson and her husband Donovan of Red Oak; five grandchildren, Darwin Johnson of Emerson, Charles Johnson of York, NE, Roger Alley of Eagle River, AK, Steven Allely of Sisters, OR, Janice Allely Davey of Hillsboro, OR; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
