Lemuel S. Pounders was born in 1787 in North Carolina and fought in the Creek Indian War with the Tennessee Volunteers in 1812-1813. He came to Franklin County prior to 1820 and homesteaded land near Rockwood. He was found on every Federal Census of Franklin County, from 1820-1870, according to Miss Pounders. Lemuel Pounders was the first Pounders to settle in Franklin County and is the ancestor of the many Pounders now living in the county. By: Mae Lee Pounders
