From the "Knoxville News Sentinel": "Nan Denton Ailor, longtime owner and operator of a number of landmark snack shops in Knoxville, died Christmas Eve at Baptist Hospital of East TN. She was 96. The Nan Denton's in the historic Fouche Building at the SW corner of Gay ST and Clinch AVE was popular with downtown workers and visitors for more than 40 years until it was closed in 1981 when the lease was not renewed.... The last Nan Denton's, located on Market Square, closed in 1985. Mrs. Denton also had a store on Union in the block that is now Krutch Park,and a drive-in on Magnolia AVE. Mrs. Denton operated Orange Julius franchises for a number of years, then used her own formula to develop 'Nan Denton's Big Orange Drink.' Mrs Denton was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Ted Denton, a longtime Knoxville city detective; by sons Ted R. Ailor, Jr., and John 'Dixie' Ailor, and several brothers and sisters...." She was the daughter of John Otto "Richard" and Lillian Mae Hope Denton.
