Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at United Methodist Church, Colman for Howard V. Adkins, 73, who died Friday, Feb. 23 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Sioux Falls, after a three week illness. Rev. Gene Kroger officiated at the services.

Howard V. Adkins was born May 18, 1916 at Colman to Charles and Cora Chamley Adkins. He received his education in Colman, then enlisted and served three years in the U.S. Army. Recalled into the Army in 1942, he served until June 1943 and received a medical discharge because of ill health. He worked in Newcastle, Wy. and Sioux Falls for several years. On April 20, 1945, he married Opal Stoddard at Luverne, Mn. They worked for a carnival throughout the midwest and Canada until 1974 when he returned to Colman. He made his home with his aunt Emma Jane King.

Howard was a member of the Colman United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 3 of Watertown and the Disabled American Veterans Assn.

He is survived by his Aunt, Emma Jane King, Colman and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Quentin and Boyd, and one sister, Virginia.

Interment was in Colman Cemetery.
