Don't know if he died in 1943 or 1944, but his death certificate gives it as 1943, and he is listed as working for Miller Bros Flooring Company [instead of a Private?]:
Thomas H Phillips is the son of Dedrick Phillips and Jennie (Pirce) Phillips. He was born in Grainger County, Tennessee and was single and living with his parents at 1103 Brown Avenue, Knoxville, when he was shot through the heart and killed "in a public place" in Nashville on December 22, 1943: He was DOA at Nashville General Hospital. Burial was four days later in Shiloh Cemetery in Grainger County.
