Mrs. John Baade Dies

Funeral services for Mrs John Baade, 89, were held Monday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock from the house to St Paul's Ev Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock with the Rev R C Schluerter officiating.
Burial was in the city cemetery.

Mrs Baade died Thursday evening, March 23, at 9 o'clock, following a few days of illness of influenza, her condition taking a turn for the worse Thursday afternoon. Aside from an injured hip which necessiated the use of a cane for a number of years, Mrs Baade had enjoyed good health.

As Maria, she was born a daugher of Mr and Mrs John Hoth in Griepswald (this is how it was typed Should be Frederick and Karoline Mueller Hoth ), New Vor Pommern, Germany, March 4, 1855. When 13 years old she came to Clayton County, residing in Reed Towship.

She was married, Dec 30, 1876 to John Baade at Clayton Center with the Rev R. W. Siefert performing the ceremony. The couple went to farming near Froelich, later moving to a farm 2 1/2 miles east of Monona. In 1913 they retired from the farm, moving to Farmersburg. In 1920 they moved to Monona. In 1926 they observed their golden wedding anniversary.

She was a member of the seventh division of the Ladies Aid of St Paul's Ev. Lutheran church.

She is survied by six daughters, Mrs Mathilda Klieforth, Mrs Fred Gilster, Mrs John Case, Mrs Herbert Hupfer, Mrs Enoch Anderson, all of Monona, and Mrs George Schmitt of Blunt S. D.; four sons, Henry, Arthur, William, and George all of Monona: one step-son, Gustav, of Burlington; 16 grandchildren,
11 great-grandchildren, and one step grandchild.

Her husband preceded her in death Nov 2, 1929. He was a cvil war veteran. A son, Theodore, died when 2 1/2 years old.

A quartet composed of Mrs Lydia Pufahl, Mrs R E Wirkler, Harold Wienke and Gene Ferguson, accompanied at the organ by Mrs George Heins, provided music for the service.

Grandsons were pallbearers and included; Clarence and Harry Kliefoth, Starr, Durward, Hallet and Eugene Baade and John Schmitt.
