Rulon Parnell Draper, age 79, died January 31, 1997 in Ogden, Utah of a brief case of severe pneumonia.

He was born March 11, 1917 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the son of Terry Parshall and Florence Esther Beckham Draper. He married Donna Widdison on September 18, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Rulon served honorably in the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater for five years during World War II in five major campaigns. He graduated from Utah Agricultural College (USU) with a degree in horticulture. He was the superintendent of the USU experimental farm in Farmington for 28 years. Upon retiring he moved to Hooper and remodeled the family home. It was noted for its beautiful yard and gardens.

Rulon was an accomplished formal and practical scientist. He was noted for his mechanical ability, organization and ingenious solutions to problems. He never wavered in doing that which he believed to be right and strove to be totally honest in all of his doings. Of his many accomplishments his greatest pride was in his large family and loving wife. He will be greatly missed as he has left to receive his reward.

Rulon was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He often bore a strong testimony in words and deeds. He served in many positions including Bishop's counselor, Ward Clerk, Scout Master, Stake Missionary, a faithful home teacher and Temple Worker in the Ogden Temple. He and Donna served a mission to Puerto Rico, spending most of their time on the island of St. Croix.

He is survived by all ten of his children: Duane Widdison (Teresa) Draper, Duchesne; David James (Janis) Draper, Brighton, Michigan; Deanna (George) Buck, Louisville, Kentucky; Eileen (James) Telford, Fruitland, New Mexico; Ronald Terry (Lorelei) Draper, Delta; Don Rulon (Alene) Draper, Chanhassen, Minnesota; Brent William (DeAnn) Draper, Roosevelt; Lynn Joseph (Barbara) Draper, Salt Lake City; Lillian Sue Draper, Hooper; Julie Kaye (Michael) Millerberg, Clinton.

He is also survived by 51 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his step mother, Lillian Draper of American Fork; brothers and sisters: Josephine Miller, Melba Pinnegar, Nellie Milligan, Marjorie Conder, Terry Draper and Tom Draper. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Andrew Draper, his parents and four brothers, LaVerne, Kenneth, John Paul, and Glen.
