Sherman Thomas was born August 20, 1920 in the Rocky Hill Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Maggie (James) and William Lewis Thomas, and died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in a local hospital.Mr. Thomas had resided in Angelina County all his life.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked as a millwright at St. Regis Paper Mill for 37 years.  He loved fishing, hunting and gardening.  Mr. Thomas was a member of the Lufkin V.F.W. Post #1836, and a lifelong member of the Thomas Crossing United Pentecostal Church.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruby Thomas of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman Martin and Marie Thomas of Etoile, Richard and Jeanette Thomas and James and Betty Thomas, all of Huntington; daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth Adams and Ed Flaknor and Sallie Thomas Monney, all of Huntington; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his brothers, Cleaburg, Austin, and Edgar Thomas; sisters, Estelle Hodges, Ora Modisette and Maurice Bruner; and daughter-in-law, Sue Thomas.
