Mildred enjoyed playing the piano and singing with her sisters. She sewed extensively, making clothes and quilts. Mildred married Herschel Johnson on June 2, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas. They had one daughter Brenda Kay.
Herschel also had a son, Jerry Lynn Johnson of Lubbock, who is deceased. Mildred was from a prominent family in Post, Texas. Her father, Martin King Bingham was a rancher and lay minister for the Nazarene Church.
After attending the Pomona Nazarene College, Mildred went to Oklahoma and then to Lubbock where she married.
She spent most of her adult life in Lubbock, Texas with her husband, Herschel and her daughter, Brenda Shell Christie of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She also has a grandson, Bryan E. Shell of Colorado Springs. Mildred had three sisters, Juanita Taylor, Margaret Scott and Opal Frost.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Shell Christie and grandson, Bryan E. Shell of Colorado Springs, Colorado and her sister, Juanita Taylor of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Swan Law Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Entombment will take place at the Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas.
