Civil War veteran; he enlisted for the Union as a Private in Company I, 19th Indiana Infantry, on February 14, 1862. This regiment was part of the Iron Brigade of the West, or "Black Hats Brigade," which fought in many of the major battles with the Army of the Potomac in the eastern theater. On September 17, 1862, Pvt. Clark was killed at the Battle of Antietam at Antietam, Maryland.
