Mevil "Melba" Starkey Carrier

Age 70, a native of Pumpkin Center and a long time resident of Amite, Melba passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at North Oaks Medical Center. She retired from Kennedy Signs Company in Amite and was a member of First Baptist Church of Amite.

Melba is survived by her daughter, Emily Peek and husband, Semyon of Kentwood; son, Bo Carrier and wife Audrey of Amite; mother, Era Starkey, Pumpkin Center; sisters, Gildra Mixon, Amite, Vesta Stewart, Albany and Dale Covington of Pumpkin Center. She leaves behind three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her father, Ehlert Starkey and her granddaughter, Shellie Carrier preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday, October 16th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Mike Foster will officiate the services and interment will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Condolences and other information available online at www.bgthompsonfuneralhome.com
