Elias Leroy Golden, born January 6, 1834 in Henry Co. Georgia, migrated to Texas Co, Missouri near Hartshorn just prior to the Civil War with his sister Mildred and her husband, Nathan Lowder, a cotton farmer from Poinsetta County, Arkansas. Elias' father Allen and his mother Anna, both born in South Carolina and migrated from Henry County, Georgia to Arkansas in 1847. They were married in Georgia on May 24, 1820. Allen was 38 years old and Anna was 13. Seven children was born to this union. Allen died in Cachet township, Arkansas, just prior to the 1850 census.

Research indicates that Allen's father , William I, born in virginia 1750 and his grandfather, John golden, born in 1725, were Revolutionary war soldiers fought under Elijah Clark and received land grants for their service.John and William lived on Soap Creek near Lincolntonw, Georgia with other members of the family including Allen, Mark Sr, Mark Jr and William II. During the Civil War, Elias mother and brothers and sisters stayed in the South. Some of Elias' fought for the Southern cause.
Elias married Surrilda Crabtree born June 1, 1843, died October 31, 1925, and migrated from Indiana to Casto Valley near Hartshorn, MO. During the Civil War moved to Illinois where several of their children was born. After the War they returned to Hartshorn .
