Andrew was the 5th of 10 children (5 sons and 5 daughters) born of Andrew Clark (1755-1819) and his wife Mary Robinson (1754-1841). Andrew's siblings were: John (1776-1845), Milton, Lurenda, Mehitabel, Lois, Augustus, Polly, Sylvester, and Freelove.

Andrew married Sophia Goodspeed (1790-1877) by whom he had eight children (7 sons and 1 daughter): Sylvester (1811-1873), Ira. M. (1813-1893), Rufus (1817-1896), Andrew (1820-1905), Henry (1822-1892), Mary (1825-1876), Hermon (Herman) R. (1828-1903), and Judson.
