On the 1910 census, Mattie is living with her mother, Mary E Oatts 62 years old. Mary George Weldon Blevins was born DEC 29 1911. John A Weldon was first admitted to Bryce Mental Hospital June 16 1913. Lettie Weldon Perry was born OCT 26 1913. There was one more daughter birth date unknown that was adopted by somebody. Family legend says that John A Weldon tried to throw one of his daughters into a well. That was part of why he was commited to Bryce Mental Hospital. The unknown daughter was adopted by a rich family, possibly a doctor, according to family legend. There is the possibility that this daughter was conceived while he was on furlough. There are no mental problems that I know of in any Weldon kin on my side of the family. From 1910 to June 1913, is a little less than 3 years. Two or three daughters were born and John was committed to Bryce.
THAT IS A LOT TO HAPPEN IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS.
John A Weldon was first admitted to Bryce Mental Hospital June 16 1913. He was furloughed Dec 7 1914. Returned Jan 13 1915. He was furloughed and readmitted several times over the years. He died at Bryce's in 1953.
John Weldon was born in 1884. Just before the 1890's when "Patent Medicine" was started in the United States. This medicine had Cocaine, Opium And/Or Heroin in it. No wonder ALL the townfolk rushed to meet the "Medicine Wagon" in the old cowboy movies. Some historians estimate that as many as 50% of Americans were addicted to the "Patent Medicines" This could be a very logical explanation to John Weldon's problems.
We have all his Bryce's records.
