COLUMBIA. Died.-- in Columbia, July 21, Hannah Metcalf, born, May 31, 1793 in Ct. In 1851 (sic) she married David Jewitt, and with him, moved to Ohio, in 1837. In 1841 she and her husband returned to Connecticut, to make a visit and while there he was taken sick and died, leaving her to make the journey home alone. After her return she was married to Isaiah Doane in 1846 and lived with him till the year of his death, 1852. Since that time she has had a comfortable home with her son, Josiah Doane, who has carried for her slightest wants during her declining years. In early life she became a Christian and joined the Congregational Church. During her illness she suffered no pain. Gradually failing, she passed to her reward at the advanced age of 85 years. So another pioneer has gone, leaving us an example of right living and that she had hope of a blessed immortality. The funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Baptist Church, Rev. L. Yarnell. (Grindstone City Advertiser, 25 Jul 1878)
