He married Martha (Mattie) Caroline Rogan on January 13, 1881.
He was the Superintendent of City Schools in Lexington, Kentucky from 1886 - 1892 and 1903 - 1928. He was the Superintendent of County Schools of Fayette County, Kentucky from 1892 - 1903.
He was a short story writer and a contributor on articles on educational subjects to various magazines. He was the author of the Golden Deeds system of character building.
He was survived by his wife, two sons; Henry D. Cassidy and Perry R. Cassidy (and Dorothy) and two daughters; Martha Cassidy and Margaret (and William J.) Sandford.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fayette County.
Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery in Fayette County, Kentucky.
