Mr. Grant was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Grant of Mound Township this county, where he was born on a farm on April 3, 1860. He grew up there and in his early life worked hard and engaged in farming for himself he was a successful stock raiser. He lived in Mound Township all his life except for 14 years in Paola. Coming here in 1904, he engaged in various businesses until the spring of 1918, when he moved back to Beagle.
Mr. Grant was a genial, good-natured man and enjoyed the company of his friends. Politically, he was a Republican and always worked for the best interest of the party. He was a shrewd businessman and a financial success. He improved several properties in Paol and several years ago built three good residences on East Piankishaw Street and at the same time owned two good farms in Mound Township. He disposed of all his real estate properties and leaves a large personal estate.
He was married on June 30, 1883, to Miss Mary Ella Wright, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Wright of Mound Township, who died on April 3, 1900. On January 14, 1914, he was married to his surviving wife, Miss Ora Sinclair. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and of the Eastern Star Order in Osawatomie, and was also a member of the Fraternal Aid for a number of years.
With his wife, he is survived by three daughters and one son, E. W. Grant, who is engaged in the merchantile business in Beagle, Mrs. Ada English, wife of Francis R. English, Mrs. Mildred Jones, wife of Forest D. Jones, and Mrs. Edith Leigh, wife of Charles F. Leigh, all of Kansas City, also four brothers and two sisters; John F., Peter, George W., and Charles Grant, and Mrs. Mary Phenicie, wife of the late Daniel Phenicie, and Mrs. Lillie Jones, wife of Lee Jones, all of Mound Township. A sister, Mrs. Warren Bryan died three years ago.
The funeral services, conducted by C. N. Averill of Lane, in charge of the Masonic Lodge of Osawatomie, were held at Beagle Tuesday afternoon and were largely attended. Burial was made in Beagle Cemetery.
