  Bernard (Bernie) Willard Nordenstrom of Mora died at the Foley Nursing Center on Thursday, March 5 2009. He was 89 years old.

  He was born in Wakefield, Mich. on Nov. 16, 1919 to JB and Selma (Breidimier) Nordenstom. He attended school in Pine and Kanabec counties until the sixth grade.
In 1940 he went to California to work for the Lockheed Aircraft Company. In March of 1942 he was drafted into the Army, attending gunnery training, radio and engineering school. Upon passing the entrance exam for pilot training he was accepted into the cadet program.

  He was commissioned and received his wings at Ellington Field in Texas. Stationed in England, he flew his B-24 bomber "Lil Snook's" for 35 missions over Germany. On July 7, 1945 he was united in marriage to Lena Maree Holladay in Chanute, Kan.

  He was discharged from the service and they moved back to Minnesota where he went to work for JB Nordenstrom Construction and became a masonry foreman. In 1957 he started his own masonry construction company, which eventually became Bernard Nordenstom and Sons Construction Inc. They developed and built many commercial and residential buildings in the Mora area.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wallace Nordenstom.

  He is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother; sisters; a sister-in-law,; a brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Funeral services were on March 13, 2009 at the Mora United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Buckley officiating.

  Pallbearers were Matt Carroll, Ryan Carroll, Adam Nordenstrom, Joe Nordenstrom, Arik Nordenstrom and Andy Knuth.

  Inurnment will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
