Singleton Posey volunteered a Loachapoka, Lee Co., AL on May 3, 1862, as a private in Co.B., 34th AL Infantry, the same outfit as his brother , Gilbert, joined. He was captured by Federal troops and parolled as a prisoner of war at Talladega, AL on July 8, 1865. He died of his wounds on April 15, 1866. The 34th fought at Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Atlanta. Singleton's descendants remember his wife relating how she could pull a silk handkerchief through his would. He is buried at the Baxley Cemetery in Coosa Co. AL., as his wife was related to the Baxleys.
