Cornelius Henry Luce, 78, died Saturday, Aug 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of his son, Hollis, of Portland where he had made his home for the past seven years.

Born in Ronald township March 26, 1873, he was the son of Manley and Fannie Luce. He was married Nov. 29, 1900 to Olive Rosella Grinnels and she died in 1910. He lived in Ionia for 22 years where he worked for Glenn L. Pierce Contrator until hie illness forced him to retire seven years ago.

Survivining are three daughter: Hazel Pettit and Hester Orvis of Lansing and Myrtle Jenks of Ionia; a son, Hollis of Portland; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Corda Bingham, of Palo. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Helen, and three brothers, Burt, and Arba of North Dakota and Curt of Palo.

The body will lie in state at the Neller Funeral Home in Portland until Tuesday noon when it will be removed to the Palo Methodist Church for services at 3 p.m. Dr. Paul L. Stewart will officiate. Interment will be in Palo Cemetery.
