Vincent E. Staab, 78, of Springfield died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at his home.

He was born May 13, 1924, in Springfield, the son of George J. and Christine Ize Staab.

Mr. Staab was a retired partner of Staab Funeral Home with more than 50 years of service.

He was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a lab technician. He received a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars, three overseas service bars and a good conduct medal. He was an honorary lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 364 and a fourth-degree knight of the Bishop Griffin Assembly Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 437, UCT Council 95, National Funeral Directors Association and Illinois Funeral Directors Association, where he was licensed for more than 50 years. He was a life member of American Legion Post 32, VFW Post 755 and AMVETS Post 61.

Survivors: a sister, Catherine L. Staab of Springfield; a brother, George J. Staab Jr. of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
