Emmitt Campbell, age 87 years, of Seagraves, passed away March 23, 2009, in Seminole. Services will be 3 P.M., Friday, March 27, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Seagraves. Rev. Lynn C. Long will be officiating. Burial will follow in Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves. Personal services are under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors in Seagraves.

Mr. Campbell was born on July 19, 1921, to Otho and Johnnie Ruth Campbell, in Hardemon County, Texas. His family moved to Quanah where he attended school. He moved to Brownfield and later to Seagraves in 1950.

On Nov. 12, 1942, he married Florine Smith, in Jacksonville, Fla. She preceded him in death in last year.

Emmitt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seagraves. He also served as deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was an avid farmer, member of the Yoakum County Soil Conservation Board and the Yoakum County Hospital Board. He was known for his ability to fix anything as long as he had duct tape, bailing wire or silicon. He loved his family above everything else and had nick-names for each of his children.

Mr. Campbell is survived by one son, Matthew Campbell and wife, Gayla, of Seagraves; three daughters, Donna Long and husband, Philip, and Martha Milford, both of Lubbock, and Penny Brown and husband, Wesley, of Midland; one brother, Robert (Bob) Campbell of Wolfforth. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Campbell, in 1986; one daughter, Lorna Carpenter in 2002; and one brother, O.F. (Bud) Campbell in 1987.
