BROOKS, Ginger (Buell) Sanders
Sept. 16, 1938 - March 14, 2009

A 42-year cancer survivor, Ginger passed away due to the long-term effects of the radiation treatment. She was a beloved wife and mother, and is survived by her husband Jim of Placerville, her daughter Debra Curran of Medford, OR, son Kelly Sanders (Cheryl) of Shingle Springs, sister Sharon Duncan of Oroville, brother Jim Stites of Sebastopol, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous step brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Her father James Buell of Scotts Valley, her mother Ernestine Lindsey of Placerville, her stepmother, Fern Buell of Sacramento, her daughter Linda Royal of Georgetown, her infant son Gregory Jones of Placerville, and her sisters Marjorie Stafford of Sacramento, Vern Snyder of Sacramento, and Marilyn DeFillipis of Vacaville, preceded Ginger in death. Ginger was born in Oakland, CA but considered Placerville her hometown. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1956, obtained her AA degree from Sacramento State College, and later earned a Culinary Arts certificate from Santa Rosa Junior College.

The entrepreneurial spirit was strong in Ginger, and she operated several businesses including "Farmland Playskool" and "Introductions by Janice" in Diamond Springs, and "Brookshire Gardens", a wedding and event venue in El Dorado.

Ginger was an avid gardener, who had mastered many of the home arts. She was at one time referred to as "The Martha Stewart of the Mother Lode", and one close friend recently stated that she could truly make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". She also enjoyed volunteering for Snowline Hospice, was an El Dorado County Master Gardener and a Master Food Preserver. She entered many items at the county fair, usually earning a ribbon. In 2008 she entered a cloth sculpture of a mouse reading a book, earning "Best of Show". She donated it to the El Dorado Co Literacy Program, where it was auctioned off and donated by the winner to the Pollock Pines Library.

Ginger will be interred with her daughter Linda Royal at Westwood Hills Cemetery in a private ceremony. Family and friends are invited to a "Celebration of Life" on Friday, March 27th at 1:00 pm at Green Valley Church 3500 Missouri Flat Road, Placerville. Remembrances may be made in Ginger's name to Master Food Preservers, 311 Fair Lane, Placerville, CA 95667, for the purpose of establishing an annual award to be given at the El Dorado County Fair in the category of jams and jellies, which she loved the most.
