Darlene Lou Smith Stout, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away after a courageous fight with cancer, March 22, 2009. She was a resident of St. George, Utah, for the past two years. She was born June 6, 1936, in Casper, Wyo., to Catherine Marie Wardle and Reynold Charles Smith. She married John LaVon Stout, Dec. 4, 1953, in Salt Lake City. John passed away June 3, 1980. Darlene was educated in Salt Lake and later moved to Las Vegas with her husband. Darlene loved crafts, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. She loved working with the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and anything involving her children. She was an avid reader and could win any debate concerning politics and sports, especially tennis. Darlene was very proud of her grandchildren and kept close tabs on her great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Dar." She was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed many callings. Darlene is survived by her five children, Pam (Ray) Brooks of Washington, Utah, Rick (Kathy) Stout of Las Vegas, Russ (Brenda) Stout of Enoch, Utah, and David (Natalie) Stout and Jolyn (Pat) Larson, both of Las Vegas. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna Johnson; and a brother, Roy (Edith) Smith, both of Casper, Wyo. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and one brother. The family would like to thank the staff of the St. George Rehabilitation and Care Center and those caring souls from Rocky Mountain Hospice. Funeral services will at 10 a.m. Friday, March 27, at the Robindale LDS Ward Chapel, 7670 S. Bruce St., in Las Vegas. Visitation will be 9-9:45 a.m. at the chapel prior to services.
