Suggested edit: Col Walsh was the sole survivor of his crew when they we struck by flak over Italy 10 April 1945. He was the bombardier and was thrown out if the damaged B24 as it exploded.
He was captured and spent the remainder of the war a POW.

799th BS, 464th BG, 15th AF
April 10,1945 mission to bomb a tactical target near Lugo,Italy. Plane was flying as group lead with the 799th BS C.O. at the controls. It took a direct flak hit between the #1 and #2 engines, folding the wing back and bursting into flame. It then spun several times and exploded, throwing one man clear.
