DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Harold Kenneth 'Cooney' Whitaker, Sr., 76, husband of Mrs. Shirley Huff Whitaker, entered into rest on Monday, March 23, 2009, at the University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Timothy Pendry officiating. Mr. Whitaker was a native of Columbia County and worked at SRS and was a Plumber Pipe Fitter with Local Union #150for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic A.J. Miller Lodge. Survivors include his wife Shirley Whitaker; two sons, Harold K. Whitaker, Jr. (Karen), North Carolina and Roger D. Whitaker, Dearing; one brother, Carol S. Whitaker, Thomson; two grandchildren, Harold Whitaker, III and Clayton Whitaker; and one great-grandchild Brayden Whitaker. Pallbearers will be James Whitaker, John Dent, Andy Rodgers, Mark Rodgers, Rodney Thompson, and Dean Cason.
