Elaine Stout passed away on March 2, 2009, in Woodland Care Center in Woodland, Wash., following a major stroke.

She was born in Port Clinton, Ohio, to Arthur and Laura C. "Dunkle" Sperber on Aug. 24, 1925.

The family moved to Tillamook in 1927. In the fall of 1947 she met her husband, Andrew R. Stout. They were married on July 2, 1948. She and her husband, Andy, lived in Yakima, Wash., St. Marie's, Idaho, and Stevens County before relocating to Vancouver, Wash. They also spent many months out of the year enjoying a beach house in Ocean Park, Wash., before its sale a few years ago.

Elaine enjoyed several years of square dancing, bowled for several years in a league, played golf and enjoyed working in her flower gardens, besides being an avid reader.

Most of all, she enjoyed being with her immediate and extended family. She was devout in her Christian faith and enjoyed her lifelong friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Betty J. Harris, an infant great-grandson, Jonah, and a step-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband, Andy, at the home in Vancouver, Wash., son David and his wife Karen, in Woodland, daughter Debra Dunn and her husband Kelly, in Portland, daughter Dianna Aronson and her husband Dan, in Temple, Pa.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; brothers Arthur Sperber of Bremerton, Wash., and Donald Sperber of Hood River; sister Shirley Sperber of Vancouver, Wash.; and numerous nephews and nieces. She will also be missed by her beloved cat, Tuxedo.

A graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on March 6. Memorial Gifts may be given to Nursing Home Ministries, PO Box 22246, Portland, OR 97269-2246, or of one's choice.
