Mrs. Swope formerly resided in both Avis and Lock Haven. Born in Ridgway on July 4, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Harry I. and Anna Daley Yearick.
Mrs. Swope was a 1938 graduate of the Lock Haven High School and a 1942 graduate of the Lock Haven Teachers College. She started her teaching career in Hammersley Fork in a one-room school house, then worked nine years at the Flemington Elementary School and nine years as a beloved fifth-grade teacher in Wyckoff, N.J. She retired in 1977.
Jeanne had been a devout member of the Lock Haven First Church of Christ and the Avis Church of Christ. She had also been active with Lock Haven Senior Citizens Group, Golden Gems of Avis, Fellowship Club of Mill Hall, Cheer Club of Beech Creek and the Jersey Shore Community Choir.
Jeanne was preceded in death by husbands Charles Charnesky and Joseph Swope and siblings Lester, Robert, Richard and Lois Yearick and Dorothy Hauke.
Survivors include a son, C. David and his wife Darlene Charnesky of Wyckoff, N.J.; a daughter, SuElyn Gomez of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel and Michael Charnesky and Kathryn and Maximo Gomez.
A memorial service will be held on May 30, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the First Church of Christ in Lock Haven with burial to follow in the Schenck Cemetery, Howard. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to the Lock Haven First Church of Christ, Water and Vesper streets, Lock Haven.
Arrangements are being completed by the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
