OBIT:

PIONEER WOMAN ANSWERED CALL

Mrs. Sarah (Merritt) Carroll Died at Daughter's Home Saturday

WAS 81 YEARS OF AGE

Saturday morning shortly after 11:00 o'clock, Mrs. Sarah Carroll, widow of William Carroll, early settler of the Omega community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Tansay in the south edge of Tipton county near atlanta. Death ended an illness of several weeks and was caused by after effects of flue and pneumonia.

The death of Mrs. Carroll removes another of the pioneer wome and early settlers of this community, she having been born over the edge in Hamilton county, her parents being Edward and Martha Merritt, pioneers of that section. Mrs. Carroll was a source of much valued information regarding the early history of this and Hamilton county in the days when there were few roads and persons left their homes but few times yearly for their supply of provisions. This trip was always a memorable one for the children. Of several children born to this pioneer couple but two are still living, they being Mrs. Elizabeth Stillwell of Atlanta and Brazilla Merritt of Independence, Kas.

Mrs. Carroll was united in marriage to William Carroll, October 3, 1867 and resided in the Omega community unitl his death in 1893. She resided alone for about a year following his death and then came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clyde Tansay, with whom she has been ever since. Grandma Carroll as she was lovingly called by many was the mother of two children one daughter being deceased. Besides the brother in Kansa and th sister in Atlanta and the daughter at whose home she died shie is survived by two grandsons, Orville and Luther Tansey, sons of Clyde Tansey and wife.

Grandma Carroll was a devout Christian woman, and she was a member of the Atlanta Christian church. Her passing will be a matter of general regret to the community in which she was known and loved for so many years.
