Third son and fourth child of Ellwood and Catharine Wollaston Garrett of Wilmington, Delaware. Joined his brother Maurice in their father's photography business in that city until 1876, when his first wife (Mary Warner), mother, and son (Walter Percy) all died of varying causes. Left Delaware shortly thereafter, becoming a cotton farmer in eastern Texas. May have married a woman named "Helen Rutdge" in 1880, but she died shortly after. Finally married a third time in 1882 to Euphemia Brown of Xenia, Ohio, where his sisters Agnes and Catharine had moved earlier. They returned to Texas, where their son Jay (1890-1897) and daughter Agnes (1895-unknown; later Mrs. Tom Polk Williams) were born. The family moved to California by 1910, and then to Allandale, Florida. His siblings would spend the winters there, though Warren seems to have lived there full time.
