----------
John W. Miller was the fourth child and eldest son of Nathan Miller and Mary Ann Elmira Stultz. He is enumerated (though not named) in 1840 U.S. Census of Hamilton, Adams County, Pa., in the household of Nathan Miller, which then consisted of one adult male and one adult female, three girls age 9 or under, and one boy age 9 or under -- the boy was John. In the 1850 and 1860 U.S. Censuses, John is named in the household of Nathan and Elmira -- both censuses indicate that John was born circa 1839, age 11 in 1850 and age 21 in 1860. John does not appear in later censuses, since he died in the summer of 1860. His gravestone, however, says he was 25 years and 3 months old when he died in June of 1860, so the censuses are probably a little off in his age (a common problem with census records), though it's also possible that it's the gravemarker that has an incorrect age at death.
