William (Bill) Carol Soward departed this life on March 20, 2009, after suffering a stroke at his home in Blanchard, OK. He was born December 5, 1925, in Skiatook, OK, the son of Dewitt Talmage and Anna Maud (Swanson) Soward. Bill's passing at Norman Regional Hospital was in the presence of loved ones. Bill was preceded in death by his parents two sisters, Doris Mankin of Blanchard, OK, and Betty Wiedman of Beaumont, TX and three brothers, DeWitt Soward of Glendale, CA, Dale Soward of Blanchard, OK, and Leonard Paul Soward of Albany, OR. Bill had a life full of rich experiences and relationships. He was a learned man who had a deep-rooted passion for reading and the pursuit of knowledge. He attended Bridge Creek High School, leaving in 1943 to work in Washington D.C. as a file clerk for the FBI. Bill was inducted into the Air Force in 1944 and served until 1946. He returned to Bridge Creek after leaving the Air Force to finish high school. In 1948, Bill joined the Army and was stationed in Germany and France, where he worked in Eisenhower's headquarters. He left the Army in 1952. Bill moved to Pueblo, CO, where he fell in love with Rose Catalino and married the pretty young lady in 1955. Bill and Rose moved to Blanchard, OK after their wedding, where he worked briefly with his father and brothers drilling water wells. He joined the Navy in 1958, serving at several duty stations, traveling the world, visiting numerous ports of call. He retired from the Navy in 1972. After retiring from the Navy, Bill returned to Blanchard to attend the University of Oklahoma, where he received a BA degree in 1974. Shortly after graduating, he joined the faculty of Blanchard High School, where he embarked upon a second career as science teacher. Bill retired from teaching at Blanchard High School in 1988. Bill was a member of VFW, American Legion, Blanchard Lions Club, and Oklahoma Education Association. He was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Blanchard and served in the choir throughout the time he was a member of the Church. Bill had a very close relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Over the length and breadth of his life, Bill touched the lives of countless people. He was loved dearly by family and friends. His smile and loving presence will be missed beyond description. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Soward his sisters, Ruth and husband Joe Moore, and Anna Rose and husband Gerald Wilkins, all of Blanchard, and Jimmie and husband Chester Bent of Auburn, CA his children, Patrick and wife Beth, John, and James and his grandchildren, Jason and wife Mistie, Ashley, and Steven. Services for William Carol Soward are scheduled for 10:00 am on March 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Blanchard, with Pastor Andy Finch officiating. Interment will follow at the Blanchard Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are through Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
