Salt Lake Tribune on 3/16/1992. Born in Kenilworth, Utah on January 6, 1930, a son of Arthur John and Ethel Marie Leahey Bailey. Bernard died in Salt Lake City of a heart attack on March 13, 1992. He resided at 2606 East 2980 South in East Millcreek, Utah at the time of his death. Orphaned at an early age, he was raised by his sister, Blanche Dudler. Bernard served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Dixie Watkins on September 5, 1954 in Price. He attended College of Eastern Utah and Westminster College. Bernard retired as Lieutenant in the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office on January 31, 1992, closing out a career of over 32 years. He was chairman of Region 32 International Police Association, Footprinters International, BPOE Bountiful Lodge, the Sunshine Boys Retired Coffee Club, and an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Dixie; a daughter, Ayne Anderson; two sons, Cory and Erik; granddaughters, Amber, Angel, Tasha, and grandson, Jeremy, all of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by nieces, Barbara (Mrs. Carley) Burton, Debbie Smith of Murray; and nephew, Arthur John Dudler, Denver Colorado.

He was preceded in death by sister, Blanche; brother, Dixon; and granddaughter, Jessica; and son-in-law, Robert C. Anderson. The family will receive friends at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, on Tuesday, March 17, 1992 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 19, 1992 at 12:00 noon at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1710 Foothill Drive. Cremains will be intered at Mountain View Memorial Estates following the services.
