This headstone has several names on it. The front of the stone reads:
RANDOLPH
Orvel , September 15, 1860, November 30, 1911
Jane, his wife, May 27. 1942 and no death date because Jane was not buried there, but buried at Maple Hill Cemetery and can be found under FAG # 38499656.

They had 7 children, 4 are buried here as they died at a very young age, Mattie, Mabel, Mammie, and Orvel, Jr.. The three older children born to them survived and lived to a ripe old age, Olive, Alvis, and Nancy.

Orvel lived a hard life and liked to drink. My grandmother told a couple of stories about her father's death, both of which were semi untrue. One was the bushwhackers hung him, and another was he was hung because he ran with the James boys. Through documentation, I found the truth. He was hung, but he did it to himself. Orville was a drinker and he cashed in an insurance policy and went on a bender. He was arrested in Kansas City, KS and he was placed in the Wyandotte County Workhouse. He was so upset that he had let his family down and he was going to miss Thanksgiving, he took his belt off and hung himself. My grandmother was visiting her in-laws and had to take a train back to KC to help her mother arrange the services.

No one is sure why he was buried there as they lived in Kansas City, KS at that time. They didn't have money to even pay the funeral home, but they had the body sent to Mt. Zion. No one knows the exact dates of the children's death or causes. We can only assume Jane wanted her husband to rest with their departed children.
