Louis Rettele, a good citizen of Nemaha county, farmer of the area until he came to Seneca about eleven years ago to make his home in down, died on Thursday, February 6, 1964, at the Seneca hospital from the infirmities of age. He had been ill for only some five days.
Mr. Rettele was a friendly, interesting man who leaves many descendants and friends who mourn that these days must come.
He was 83 last October, born October 10, 1880 at St. Benedict, KS, the son of Joseph and Mary Stein Rettele.
He and Mary Ellen Engelken were married on May 19, 1908, at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. She passed away on September 6, 1954.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Rachel, Mrs. Lawrence Deters, Baileyville, KS; Florina, Mrs. Frank Macke, Jr, Baileyville, KS; Margaret, Mrs. Alfred Hasenkamp, Soldier, KS; Edwin Rettele, Aurora, CO; Mildred, Mrs. Francis Melcher, Seneca, Kansas; Eileen, Mrs. Ben Herr, Kansas City, MO; brothers, Peter Rettele, Baileyville, KS; Alphonse Rettele, Lawrence, KS; Anna, Mrs. Joseph Engelken, Seneca, KS; 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca, KS. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Benedict, KS.
