OBITUARY - Callaway Co. Weekly Gazette April 26 1878 "Mrs Susan Muir, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Susan Nichols, this city, in her 86th year of her age. ..since Mr. Muirs death she has lived with her children till her death. She was born in Feb 1792. Her name before marriage was Susan Thomas. She was married in the year 1812 . She was the mother of 13 children, 8 living and 5 dead. It was a great task to raise such a family in a new country, but zeal and perserverance made her equal to the task. Few women could have passed through the trials and difficulties she encountered, but she never dispaired hoping, for she moved forward in a cheerful mood. She was a member of the baptist church for a number of years, but upon reflecting and mining the subject, she withdrew and united with the Christian Church and remained until her death. She lived to see the fourth generation. She has been sorely afflicted for the last few years, but bore her affliction with patience and fortitude. Her home for some time past has been with her daughter, in Fulton, where on the 22 of April, she resigned her spirit and bid adiau to earthly considerations."
