David Humfreville Morrison was the son of Thomas Morrison and Sarah H. Humfreville. He married Harriet J. Skinner on 11 November 1840. He was a civil engineer and took part in the construction of the Miami and Erie Canal in 1836 and 1837, after which he was the civil engineer of Dayton, Ohio where he designed the truss bridges in that city.
