OBITUARY: "Joel Zimmerman, son of Daniel and Julia Zimmerman, was born in Penn. Oct. 25, 1831 and departed this life Nov. 27, 1899 age 68. On his 23rd birthday he was married to Miss Emily R. Darby. To this union nine children were born, two of which preceded him in death, James infant son and Fanny M. at age of 3. Seven children are still living: S.B. Zimmerman of Rock Island Ill., F.A. Zimmerman of Munson, Mich., Mrs. Len Cramer, of Locust Mich., Mrs. E.A. Alverson of Hudson Center, Willard Zimmerman of Ontario, MI, Miss Ida Zimmerman living at home on the county line. About the age 21, deceased was converted and soon after he felt the call to preach. He joined the United Brethren conference, and there assumed the duties of a minister for about 18 years. He was strong in his convictions of right, always considered carefully and weighed well, and from that which he considered right he never waved. Soon after the time he ceased preaching, he manufactured staves for the Standard Oil Co., that being his choice of labor. He followed that and various other timber links until his health failed about two years ago. His declining days he bore patiently till he sank into that peaceful rest. Funeral was held on Wed. Nov. 29th, at the county line church. Sermon by Rev. G.M. Crawford, on an old aquaintance of the U.B. Conference." ("Hudson Post", Lenawee Co., Michigan, Dec 8, 1899)
