Elaine May Hamann was the the daughter of Charles M. Hamann and Martha Mattie A. Seibert.

She married Karl Roy Smith on 10 June 1951 at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Amherst, Lorain Co., OH.

Elaine died following a short illness and was buried 04 Mar 2017.

Elaine M. Hamann To Wed Karl Smith June 10 In Amherst

AMHERST - Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Hamann, 247 Spring street, announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Elain May Hamann, to Karl Roy Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Udele Smith, Jefferson road, Ashtabula Ohio, at a supper party held Sunday evening.

The serving table was centered with a cake decorated in yellow and white, enscribed with "Elain-Karl June 10." Corsages of spring flowers were at each place with small cards attached to them. The card bore the same annouincement.

The ceremeony is scheduled to take place on June 10 at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church with the custom of open church being observed.

Miss Hamann name as her attendents: Miss Mae Smith, maid of honor, Miss Sherriff Menz and Mrs. Judd Logan, bridesmaids. Patty Upp of Lorain, flower girl. Elaine May (Hamann) Smith, 90, of Brownhelm Township, died Sunday, February 26, 2017, at her home following a short illness.

She was born May 30, 1926, in Amherst, Ohio and grew up there, graduating from Amherst High School in 1943, magna cum laude from Heidelberg College in 1947 and received a masters degree from Western Reserve University.

Elaine taught in public schools for many years, first in Lorain at Whittier Jr. High, then in Amherst at Central and Nord Jr. High schools until her retirement. She had made her home in Brownhelm Township for over 60 years.

A lifelong member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst, Elaine was deeply involved in the life of the church. She had served as president of the library board, the Chi Rho Fellowship and the Board of Christian Education. She was a member of the Circle Six fellowship and the handbell choir. Outside the church, in 1947 Elaine helped found and served as president of the Amherst Women's League. She had also been a member of the Stone City Chapter 325 of Eastern Star in Amherst. She had been a member of SCOA and Country Road Good Sam Chapter 47. Her interests included reading, flower gardening, traveling, sewing and music.

Survivors include her sons George Smith of S. Amherst and Charles (Laura) Smith of Oregon, Ohio; daughter Karel (Brian) Schieferstein of Brownhelm Township; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Karl R. Smith, her parents Charles M. and Martha "Mattie" (nee Seibert) Hamann, daughter Laurie Omlor of Tiffin, Ohio, and brother Charles E. Hamann of Ashland, Ohio.

Friends may call Friday, March 3, 2017, from 6-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter United Church of Christ, 582 Church St., Amherst. The Rev. Beverly Bammel, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
