Kenneth O. Akers, 83, of Yates Center, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas.
He was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Jackson County, Missouri, to Henry W. and Lenora (James) Akers.
He grew up near Humboldt, KS.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served until 1946.
On March 24, 1946, he married Kathryn L. Lust in Topeka, Kansas.
After his military service he lived in Kansas City, MO, and worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad as a truck driver for 23 years. He also owned and operated a towing service and gas station. After his retirement 10 years ago he moved to Yates Center.
He and his wife enjoyed spending the winter months in Mission, Texas.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in LaHarpe, KS.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter, Patricia Akers, Los Angeles, CA; a brother, James, Iola, KS; and a sister, Ruby Nicholas, Independence, KS.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. Inurnment will be in Yates Center Cemetery.
