Lydia was a famous weaver, manufacturing many yards of "Kentucky Jeans," for men's wear and flannel for women's dresses, spinning all the warp and filling and doing the coloring herself. Some of the latter was quite handsome in design. She was also a landlady for a year or more, when she and John kept a tavern.

Her parents were Stephen and Margaret McGaffey Fellows.
