Funeral Services Will Be Held at His Residence on Monday

Major William H. Winters, age 72, confederate veteran, died Saturday afternoon at 1:10 o'clock in Austell, Ga. He is survived by his wife and children, F.J., F. T., W. R., and H. G. Winters, Mrs. Thad Humphries, Mrs. J. M. Strickland, Mrs. J. M. Westmoreland, Miss Linnie Winters and Miss Pearl Winters.
Born in Marietta, Ga., in 1841, William H. Winters moved to Mississippi when a young child. When the war between the states broke out he enlisted under General Chalmore in the Tenth Mississippi, but he was subsequently appointed major and chief of artillery of the Georgia brigade.
Though wounded in his leg in the battle of Momfordville, Ky., he served four years in the confederate army, immediately after the war he came to Atlanta, and later moved to Austell, where he lived for the past twenty one years. For twenty years, he had been a justice of the peace.
Major Winters was a member of the Methodist church, serving as stewart (s/b steward) for thirty years. He was a member of the United Confederate Veterans, a Mason, Odd Fellow and a Red Man. The funeral will be from the residence Monday.
