Dale Vernon Bell was born Aug. 29 1931 on the Bell family farm in rural Sheridan County, KS; five miles north and three miles east of the county seat of Hoxie. Dale was the second son of Harry Martin Bell and Hilda Eleanor (Haynes)Bell. He lived in Sheridan County until he was about 16 years old; working one year, (1946) for his brother-in-law, Howard Cressler, as a farm hand. His father went to Alaska during the 'dirty thirties' to find work on the Alkan Highway. Dale moved with his mother and younger sisters and brother to Salina and then Solomon, KS. The family left Kansas in the late 1940's for San Diego, California where Dale's older brother, Jack was stationed in the Navy. Dale joined the United States Air Force, married, and had a son, Michael Vernon Bell born May 5, 1950. He later moved to Galveston, TX and then to San Antonio. Dale died Nov. 15, 1979. Funeral Services were held Nov. 19, 1979 at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio with Rev. Kenneth Brown officiating. He was laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antoino, TX.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Moe, of San Antonio; his mother, Hilda, Galveston TX; two brothers, Jack, San Antonio, and Lynn, Houston, TX. Five sisters: June Cressler-Hoxie, KS; Betty Cimino-Annapolis, MD; Pauline Reese-St. Louis, MO; Alyce McCord-Ft. Worth, TX; and Carmen McClean-Galveston, TX.
